Yiming Cheng

Yiming Cheng was born in Tianjin, China. She took up the clarinet at the age of ten. She started taking formal lessons with Prof. Chuan Xie at Tianjin Music Academy Middle School. Since 2006, she has taken clarinet lessons with Professor Peter Loeffler-Asal at Frankfurt Conservatory of Music and Arts, as well as Professor Ulrich Wurlitzer and Ulrich Mehlhart at Wuerzburg Conservatory of Music. In 2009, she got her Bachelor's degree, in 2012 she got her Master’s degree. In 2014, she graduated with a Doctorate in Germany.
In the Fall of 2014, she came to the United States and started taking lessons under the tutelage of Professor Tie Bai and Dr. William Wellwood. In 2017, she completed and received her Performer’s Certificate in Clarinet at La Sierra University.
She is currently teaching clarinet at Academy and Visual Performing Arts Program at La Sierra University in Southern California.
As a solo performer, she has successfully held many concerts in China, Germany, and the United States. As an orchestra performer, she has participated in performances at the Mozart Festival in Germany in 2009 and 2013, performed at the New Year Concert with Frankfurt Bad Nauheim Symphony Orchestra on Tour in China and in Germany respectively in 2013 and 2014, performed premiere works at Walt Disney Concert Hall and Carnegie Hall. She won in both the 2015 and 2016 Concerto All-Star Competitions at La Sierra University. In 2018, she won Second Prize in Senior Woodwinds in the 5th Hong Kong International Music Festival. She was invited to the 2019 Lanzhou International Clarinet-Saxophone Art Festival in China and the 2019 Monterrey International Clarinet Festival in Mexico. In 2020, she won the Second Prize in the International Clarinetist Corona Competition in the USA. As an adjudicator, she was invited to the International Music Festival of Melbourne's 7th International Youth Instrumental and Vocal Competition in 2021.
