Yiming Cheng

Yiming Cheng was born in Tianjin, China. She took up the clarinet at the age of ten. She started taking formal lessons with Prof. Chuan Xie at Tianjin Music Academy Middle School. Since 2006, she has taken  clarinet lessons with Prof. Peter Loeffler-Asal and Philipp Brunner at Frankfurt Conservatory of Music and Arts, and Prof. Ulrich Wurlitzer
and Ulrich Mehlhart at Wuerzburg Conservatory of Music. In 2009 she got her Bachelor's degree, in 2012 she got her Diplom's degree. In 2014, she graduated with a Konzertdiplom's degree in Germany. In the fall of 2014 Yiming came to the U.S. and started taking lessons under the tutelage of Dr. William Wellwood at La Sierra University.

As a performer, she has participated in performances at the Mozart Festival in Germany in 2009 and 2013. She has had the honor of performing with great musicians including Paul Meyer, András Adorján, and Grigori Zhislin, to name a few. In 2013 and 2014 she performed at the New Year Concert with Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra on Tour in China and in Germany respectively. She has also performed with her own clarinet quartet called Lyra, across the Bavaria area in south of Germany. She was a finalist in both the 2015 and 2016 Concerto All-Star Competition at La Sierra University and performs with the La Sierra University Orchestra.
