Nicholas Zavala

Nicholas Zavala is an aspiring music educator who began studying music in 2007 at the age of 11. He first began playing the trumpet in elementary and middle school, then picked up the euphonium and trombone in high school. After high school, he studied both euphonium performance and trombone performance with Steve Suminski at Riverside City College from 2015-2018. He then went on to study euphonium with Dr. David Kendall and conducting with Dr. Ariel Quintana at La Sierra University until his graduation in Spring 2021. Throughout his musical career, he has had the opportunity to perform in several different types of ensembles, including jazz band, wind ensemble, orchestra, marching band, and even choir. However, he is most fond of the opportunities he had to perform alongside industry professionals such as Bobby Shew, Alex Isles, and Dan Radlauer. Some of his favorite memories include performances in the Hollywood Christmas Parade, the Disneyland Main Street Parade, and the Reno Jazz Festival at the University of Nevada, Reno.

“I was first inspired to pursue a career in music by my junior high and high school band directors Mr. Eric Evans and Dr. Samuel Andress. I will never forget the life lessons these men have taught me, and I will never stop working to be the best musician, educator, or person that I can be, because they taught that hard work always pays off, as long as you keep moving Onward!”
